six

the boss' six year old daughter: when i was little, i used to think your name was kit.
me: well, it almost is.
six: no it's not! your name is kat. but i thought it was kit!
me: like kitkat?
six: no! like a doctor's kit! and i was always like, 'mom, why does she have such a weird name?'
me: . . . right on.

today I said something about 'my friend, Kat,' and Dustin, my favorite non-relative, was all,"whoa, wait. not your sister?" and I was like, "nope. my friend, not my sister." and he was like, "you have a friend AND a sister named Kat? seriously?" And I was like, "well, yeah. I mean, Kathryn. Katharine. whatever." and he was all, "that is crazy."

because apparently your name is so weird, it BLOWS HIS MIND that I know two people with it.

And he's 28.

This is a really long comment.

I feel the same way when people in Florida call me Chaz as if Chaz were the same as Chad. But I don't correct them. I mean, Chaz isn't my name now, but who knows about tomorrow?

One time I introduced myself to a classmate and he responded, "Your name is Annie? But your hair isn't red." And I thought: "Indeed, it is not. Nor am I an orphan. Can we move on now?"

Our names aren't weird. People are weird.

I'm from FL and I'm pretty sure I knew way more Chaz' that Chads. Which is kinda sad. And I had nothing to do with the hanging chads as I didn't live there at the time.

LOL about Annie's non-red hair. I thought the most incredible thing about Annie's name was that it didn't stand for Ann(e).

But I digress. When I was little, I called my cousin Kristen "Kitten" because I could say neither "s" nor "r." Or maybe I could, I just didn't think they were important.

But i digress again. I too have a sister and a friend and ANOTHER friend and ANOTHER friend who can all conceivably be called Kat. So it's not weird.
